Eduard Chavkin papers : typescript, 1919-1936.

Collection includes: carbon-copy transcriptions of Chavkin's extensive diary entries which chronicle his passion for music and his male lovers, a stay at a sanatorium, his interest in leftist political activists in the late Weimar Republic, notably, Kurt Eisner and Alfred Kurella, and a fascination with the Roman Catholic Church. Also included are typescripts and carbon copies of letters, dated 1930-1936, to and from Chavkin and Thomas Mann, Klaus Mann, Jakob Wassermann, Arnold Zweig, Stefan Zweig, and members of the psychiatric profession, including Sigmund Freud. There is a 28-page typescript of Chavkin's self-diagnosis in regards to his breakdown in 1921; he had intended this piece for publication. Diary volumes have the title "Das Tagebuch-Werk von Eduard Chavkin."
